If you installed a valid SSL certificate to your WordPress website and the padlock is showing “Connection not secure”, this is most probably due to mixed content. This means that some content is delivered via HTTPS and some other content is delivered via HTTP.
The fastest and easiest way to fix this is by installing a plugin to your WordPress site called “SSL Insecure Content Fixer”. I would like to give a shout-out to the author of this plugin WebAware. By the way, I am not affiliated to them in any way.
When you install the plugin, you have 6 options to choose from. Try each option and see if it fixes your site. Move from Simple to Capture All by order and clean the cache each time you change an option.
The 6 options are:
- Off
- Simple (This one will most likely work on the majority of sites)
- Content
- Widgets
- Capture
- Capture All
Please remember that it is important to backup your site before installing the plugin and this is in case something goes wrong and you want to go back.
To backup the target website, follow the instructions in these 2 articles. Choose the method you want between cPanel and UpdraftPlus:
- Backup using cPanel: How to Backup and Restore your WordPress Website with cPanel
- Backup using UpdraftPlus: How to Backup and Restore your WordPress Website with UpdraftPlus
